What artists influenced you the most and why?

Aase: There are several artists that have influenced me some more than others.

Most Frida Khalo maybe because she also painted flowers. She said, “I paint flowers so they shall not die”.

I say “I paint Roses so that I shall not die”. The international art curators have compared me to Frida Khalo.

They call me in the international art market such as nature’s emissary, rose mother, Queen of Roses.

I have also been told by several people that they can almost smell the Rose when they look at my paintings. From there to thinking about people that are hospitalized or in a nursery and cannot go out or mobilize themselves I think that paintings through art can be shown at hospitals and in nurseries at the patient’s rooms and in the living rooms and in the corridors just to brighten their days and stimulate their brains.

Or just as simple as daily impact of positive colors and shapes at the physiotherapy waiting room and in the clinics at the doctor’s office and waiting room. For 24 years now I have had a rose painting exhibition in my physiotherapy clinic in the waiting room.

There are also done studies about and regarding dimensions referring to the WHO report impacts of art on physical and mental health.

How does creating art make you feel?

Aase: I think all the time when I have some free minutes of painting and painting new paintings and motives and colors and effects in the paintings.

It is a process and it feels like there are many stages especially if it is large paintings.

I Have to evaluate again and again before finishing the painting.

It can be a quite complex or difficult process when in it but when one feels that the painting is finished and one feel it is shaped in a way that is good for the eye both colors and shape it is a very good feeling to be finished and one can go-ahead for the next painting.

How has your art evolved over the years?

Aase: My art has evolved from small watercolor painting to large original tempera paintings. There have been different epochs during the years painting but in the last 30 years, I have almost only painted roses.

I have painted roses for 30 years now and I still feel comfortable with it.

Do you see your art as serving a purpose beyond art?

Aase: Yes I do, since I am both a physical therapist and a painter I want to let my paintings “ talk to humans “ the visual talk not the words. The impact from nature, floral, Botanics on humans both physical and psychological or mental.

What are your plans for the future?
