Spread the love

I am whatev_art, a 20 years old artist from Lebanon. I define my work as “random aesthetics” since I do not like to limit myself to a specific style.

Each artwork is different and unique. I use all the colors of the rainbow as it is my favorite symbol.

The rainbow represents to me hope, love, pride as well as inclusion. The idea behind the rainbow colors is to appeal to a great audience as the world is made of a beautiful mix of these colors.

Tell us about your artwork, style, subject matter etc.

Whatev_art: My work is a direct reflection of my soul. I am a person who endured many miserable moments and these hardships sparked my love for colors. So, being in a dark stage for a long time, my lust for life grew stronger. As you can see, my work is very colorful since every color appeals to me in its own way. I believe that each color has a purpose and conveys a certain vibe, aesthetic and message. I mostly do collage art since I like to combine several objects together in order to convey a message or a certain aesthetic feel. My subject matter are mostly people since I find human beings very complex and interesting subjects to understand. Plus, every person has a story to tell which makes everyone so special and unique; it is this kind of uniqueness that I am trying to convey through my work.

Mood

When did you first realize that you have the wonderful gift and that you can do art?

Whatev_art: I started practicing art since I was a kid. My mother used to buy me coloring books and pencils. Eventually, I started asking for more art utensils as I had joined an art academy. Over there, I honed my drawing and painting skills, and at the age of 15 I was able to draw an adequate portrait. I have always been passionate about human subjects as they’re the most captivating and intricated subjects to draw. After I’ve mastered my drawing skills, I sought new challenges and one of them was digital collage. It might sound as an easy thing to do, but I’ve never had any formal training in photoshop, so playing around with this program was so fun and beneficial since I was learning a new medium to convey my ideas in a different way.

To all the smokers and non smokers out there

Can you share a usual day in your life, and what a day in your art studio is like… we love the details, and what music would you listen to and do you have any pets accompany you?!

Whatev_art: A usual day in my life would be waking up early in the morning to watch the bright colors of my view while drinking a warm cup of coffee. Then, I’d start sketching some ideas for my upcoming works. After lunch, I would either work on my laptop or draw colorful sketches and portraits. The day cannot pass by if I do not listen to music which is a necessity in my creative process. I don’t have a specific genre of music that I listen to all the time, I like to have variations in my playlist but I must say that some of my favorite artists are Daft Punk, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Supertramp, Metro Boomin, XXXTentacion and the Alan Parsons project.

Chaotic Soul

Is there any particular subject you found especially challenging to work on? If so, why?

Whatev_art: The most challenging subject to work on are portraits which are my favorite subjects to illustrate. They are very apparent in my work. As you can see, the main element of most of my artworks is a person’s face. I find the latter to be the most interesting and challenging to depict as people interest me the most. It is known as a fact, that portraits are the hardest subjects to draw or to depict well due to their complexity and numerous facial expressions. Being a person who loves to be challenged and a detail freak, portraits are the most exciting subjects to work on.

You define your art as “random aesthetics”. Could you tell me more about that?

Whatev_art: I define my work as “random aesthetics” since I do not like to limit myself to a specific style. Each artwork is different and unique. Lost for Words

What is the work you’ve done that you’re the most excited about?

Whatev_art: Whenever I work on something, I put all my heart into it. I can never work on something if I am not passionate about it. All the artworks I’ve done were thrilling since each one was different and brought on a new challenge. However, I think that the artwork I’m mostly excited about is called “Artistic Eyegasm” since I relate to it the most. This artwork kind of reflects my everyday mood; as an art-freak, getting my daily dose of “aesthetic inspiration” is a necessity. I believe that if I had to draw a self-portrait, it would be similar to “Artistic Eyegasm”.

Artistic Eyegasm

What is your favorite artwork from some artist you admire, and if you could pick one that you’ve made, and why?

Whatev_art: One of my favorite artworks is “Black Magic” by Rene Magritte. I find this painting very emblematic as it represents the serene union of the main elements of our planet: the sky, the earth and the creatures. In this painting, the beautiful woman’s body is fusing with the sky and her hand is touching the stone which reflects the strong connection between these three elements. I have always been passionate of Magritte’s work, for instance, I was inspired by his painting “The Son of Man”, in which I altered the image by replacing the apple with a diamond and changing the title to “The Son of Capitalism”.

The Sound of Corona

Do you have a real-life situation that inspired your artwork?

Whatev_art: It depends, some artworks were inspired by a real-life situation whilst others were inspired by different things such as books, movies, songs etc. For example, my artwork “The Sound of Corona” was inspired by the current COVID-19 crisis as well as “The Sound of Music” movie; so, the main idea of this artwork is to convey the importance of this virus in an artistic yet pleasant way.

What memorable responses have you had to your work?

Whatev_art: One of the best feelings in the world is when your hard work is appreciated. I am grateful for all the people who enjoy and support my work, without them I’d never come this far. Some of the heartwarming responses I’ve received were from my friends and family; impressing the ones you love obviously makes a great impact on you. Other memorable and uplifting responses would be from my followers on Instagram who ask to repost my art on their page or who ask about prints of my art which will hopefully be launched soon.

What are you working on right now, and what are your plans for the future?

Whatev_art: I am currently working on an upcoming purple artwork which I’d like to keep as a surprise. Moreover, I am also working on developing merchandise and prints as I received many requests regarding prints, I thought it was a good idea to start bringing them into life. This year has taught me a lot of unexpected things for which I am thankful for. My current plans as I said is to bring my artworks into life and to share them with the world. I live by the motto “Carpe Diem” which means to live in the moment: enjoy your day to the fullest and make the most out of it. However, my main goal is and will always be to share beauty and joy with the world.
